A grouping of four alabaster blocks, which Marcus spent a year working with the quarry to unearth, dates back 150 million years to the Jurassic period when the Iberian Peninsula was submerged beneath a shallow sea. This series is named after the powerful Titan brothers from Greek mythology, who belonged to the original family of gods predating the Olympians. Through this mythological lens, Marcus invites us to reflect on Earth’s ancient origins and on materials that endure on vastly different timescales than our own lives. He hopes this awareness grounds us, encouraging contemplation of how we spend our time on Earth and what legacies we leave behind. Marcus embodies this philosophy in his minimalist approach to sculpture, bringing a profound humility to carving a piece of Earth’s history—one that has endured and will likely persist far beyond his own lifetime.
